Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

Guide Updated: August 30, 2025

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds a second check after your password. We support time‑based codes from an authenticator app (TOTP) and push approvals if you use the SkiveCore Android app.

What You’ll Need

  • An authenticator app (e.g., Google Authenticator, Authy, Duo) on your phone, or
  • The SkiveCore Android app installed and signed in for push login approvals (optional convenience).

Enable 2FA With an Authenticator App

  1. Open your profile and go to the Security tab (URL looks like /yourusername/security).
  2. Scan the on‑screen QR code using your authenticator app.
  3. Enter the current 6‑digit code from the app into the verification field on SkiveCore.
  4. Submit to verify. Once accepted, 2FA is enabled on your account.

No QR code? Use the provided secret key on the Security tab to add the account manually in your authenticator app.

Tip: Codes change about every 30 seconds. If a code fails, wait for the next code and try again.

Push Login Approvals (Optional)

If you install the SkiveCore Android app and sign in, you can approve web logins with a simple push notification on your phone.

  • After entering your password on the website, we’ll send a push prompt to your device.
  • Tap Approve on the notification to finish signing in.
  • If you don’t receive a push, you can always enter your 6‑digit authenticator code instead.

More details: Secure Login Methods (Push Auth, TOTP).

How 2FA Works When You Log In

  • Enter your username/email and password as usual.
  • Then either approve the push on your phone or enter your 6‑digit code from the authenticator app.

More on the login experience: Logging In.

Troubleshooting

  • Codes not accepted: Ensure your phone’s date/time is set automatically (time drift breaks TOTP). Try the next code or re‑scan the QR.
  • No push received: Confirm the Android app is installed and signed in, notifications are allowed, and the phone has an internet connection.
  • Lost your 2FA device? See Can’t Access Your Account or contact support.

Disabling 2FA (If Needed)

From your profile’s Security tab, you can disable 2FA if you have access to your account. Only do this if necessary, and re‑enable it as soon as possible to keep your account secure.
